We are finding more and more hospitals and clinics in extremely remote locations that are interested in our software solutions but have trouble accessing reliable internet connection. This being the current reality, we are exploring the connectivity solutions satellites provide. Satellites are currently providing relatively good Internet connections to every corner of the globe, and the associated costs continues drop.
There are many benefits of a satellite internet connection. With internet via a satellite you can get 99.6% up-time, and the associated cost are low. “99.6% up-time” means that the connection is rarely “down,” even in severe weather. Additionally, the end-user Satellite infrastructure is easy to install and maintain; locals can be trained online in a short period of time; and the satellite system only uses 15 watts of power so this too can be inexpensively solved with a low cost solar panel and a 12 volt car battery for storage. Finally, satellites exist! Hundreds of satellites are already up in the sky, and many of them are under utilized.
Just last week we had a satellite internet connection installed at our office in Sebastopol. We are now testing this system are exploring this very promising solution with a local, international satellite provider (X2nSat). If this solution works out, we will soon hurdle over one of our potential client’s biggest barriers to leveraging our software solutions to improve their operation, and thus patient care.
